British admiral. Britain's most famous admiral, he was the hero of the country's greatest naval victory at the Battle of Trafalgar against the French in 1805. Tragically, he was killed in battle aboard his ship, Victory. His distraught sailors, wanting to save his body for a state funeral at St. Paul's in London, cleaned his body in a cannon full of rum for the journey to Gibraltar.
